News & Updates

billyWell folks it looks like the tailwater trout action and mountain fishing has officially come to a screeching halt with the full-on arrival of summer and record breaking temps.  TVA has all the taps open in an attempt to keep their down river assets running on all cylinders during this heat wave which means high water everywhere but the mountains.  Unfortunately, the lack of rain has most of the fish on the freestones seeking shelter.  What's an angler to do?  Simple, get out early and give something new a try.  Billy Davis is out there on the water targeting the early morning striper bite with great success.  While these fish aren't always easy to catch on a fly rod, Billy can put you on them and give you your best shot and if that doesn't work don't be afraid to give Mr. Wiggly a try, you won't be disappointed.  I sure wasn't.

FLLAPlease come out on Thursday June 21st and help us kick off Summer the right way.  3 Rivers Angler, in conjunction with Towee Boats and Eagle Distributing, are raising money in support of the Fort Loudon Lake Association.  If you use Ft. Loudon Lake in any way you are in debt to FLLAKE for helping keep the channels clear and the water clean.

Towee Boats will be in the house giving out the goods and they'll have several of their Guide Tested Skiffs on hand.  If you haven't checked out a Towee yet this is your chance to do so.  They're only the most versitle fishing machine ont the water today.

MFC BoatboxBack in August at the IFTD (International Fly Tackle Dealer) show the manufacturers booth which stood out to me the most was Montana Fly Company.  MFC was a fresh new face on the scene and they had a lot of product that clearly stood out in comparison to their competition.  In particular, their new boat box (which, incidentally, went on to win best of show in the Fly Box/Storage System category) was a clear improvement on previous incarnations from the other guys.  The box is an absolute behemoth and completely bomb proof.  In addition to being waterproof and made from durable ABS plastic, the box has a plethora of configuration options due to its swing leaf design which will allow all of your flies to live under one roof.

Due to some design issues that had to be ironed out the eventual launch of the box was delayed until last week.  Happily, they are now on the shelf at 3 Rivers Angler.  Available in a variety of colors (and soon in the MFC artist series) they'd make a great gift to any dad out there looking to simplify his fly box habit.  The box runs $49.99 and leaf's are $11.95.  Come by and check them out, you won't be disappointed.
